Consider Ireland where Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael did just that in 2020. These are parties who were on opposite sides in Ireland's civil war 100 years ago and bitterly opposed to each other in the past.
Neither has ruled each other out.

That's true, but it would mean Labour revealing themselves as the centre-right party they mostly appear to be (honorable exceptions include candidates like Craig Rennie). With a huge risk of tanking their support among any left-leaning people currently voting for them, who would finally have to accept political reality and shift to Greens, TPM or maybe Opportunity.
Honestly, I can't see it in 2026.
